At Little Land, a familiar daily rhythm makes room for learning, outdoor adventures, shared meals, and rest.
The routine helps children know what comes next while giving them opportunities to develop independence.
The day begins with drop-off between 7:00 and 7:30 a.m. Children remove their outdoor clothes, wash their hands, and settle into the space.
During the morning, classroom activities offer opportunities to explore language, practical life skills, sensory experiences, and art. These experiences make room for curiosity, choice, and learning through doing.
At around 8:30 a.m., it is time to head outdoors. This part of the day may include playground time, gardening, music and movement, or a community walk.
There is time to move, notice changes in nature, and explore the world together.
Following outdoor time, children wash their hands and prepare for morning snack. Afterwards, they clean up, wash their faces, and return to more classroom activities at 10:30 a.m. If the weather is perticularly nice, we may make our backyard our classroom for the rest of the morning.
At 11:30 a.m., children tidy up, wash their hands, and prepare for lunch.
Meals are also opportunities to practise everyday skills. Children can help prepare the table and take part in the routines that make shared meals possible.
After lunch, the routine includes cleanup, toileting, and getting ready for rest at 12:30 p.m. We typically wind down with some gentle yoga. Children who do not nap can enjoy quiet time with books on their own cot.
At 2:00 p.m., children wake and ease into classroom activities and stories.
Another outdoor period begins at 2:30 p.m., followed by handwashing and afternoon snack at 3:45 p.m.
At 4:15 p.m., cleanup and story time bring the day towards a calm finish. Pickup takes place between 4:30 and 5:00 p.m.
Learning happens throughout the day—in activities and stories, but also in putting on shoes, washing hands, helping at meals, and exploring outside. These small moments give children opportunities to feel capable, connected, and at home.
